Let’s get a little insights as we throw up a little dapper Q & A of all the experiences

What techniques do you use to source talent for a production?

We first usually check our database for any casting calls which is there with agency as drives/compcards etc submitted by models , next we post in our agency status and what’s app casting groups to get more talents if we feel need more profiles to show clients as per their requirements .

Can you walk me through your process for assessing the suitability of actors for a particular role for ads ?

It’s a tough job as a part of casting and being a casting director so much goes behind the selection of each role for a particular script or role as hundreds of models apply for the same particular role . First we short list from the applied profiles based on the character description of the script for any advertisement and some time client’s vision for his brand ad film. Then we ask for auditions for the same from shortlisted actors and being sent to production or client for final selection. So our visions are strong to sense in a funny way .

Tell me about a time when you faced a challenging casting problem. What steps did you take to solve it, and what was the outcome?

There are so many on spot casting issues as well before locking the final
Cast .
– Mainly if the actors gets health issues and after getting short listed opted out from the project . We have to again sit back , find a suitable n sımilar actor within permitted time until clients says yes .
– 2nd when budgets don’t work out actors opts out in some cased so we convince client or models or sometime o pay from my casting fee to lock the cast without any issues .
– 3rd is when ever actors reached to location late and unprepared with the script , the entire team n director gets pissed off and we have to manage saying sorry and u always request actors to be on time and being professionally prepared for the role before .

When did you become interested in working as a casting director, and what influenced your decision to pursue this career?

Passion leads to dreams and is the source of finest moments . As they say Rest is reason . I had been actively involved in dance acting and anchoring from my childhood to teen and did many Tv shows , albums and host events in Odisha as that’s my hometown . Had worked as actor in ETV odia for couple of years during college days n did many fashion shows as hobby n passion . U am a professional Odishi and western dancer too trained by Guru Saroj khan. So all these were watering inside even though I got job post my engineering and was building up for something big . Initially when u shifted to Bangalore had joined Wipro and then side wise was going to shows n meeting people kids n parents at different events here to build knowledge, likewise few years u had associated with people for fashion shows n anyhow got interest in Casting . I had a small group of kids n models that time from which few kids got in for Max store campaign shoot through a fried requirement and from then there is no looking back .

After 1 year of on off coordination with multiple people in the industry o had launched my agency BEYOUMODELS in 2020 and my work got more n more over the years n casted for more than 1000 ads for kids elders seniors etc . That’s how the journey from passion to a casting director began

My seniors n mentors that time were Sudha mam and Omsharan (Pasupathy) who always guided me and told you can’t work as coordinator and become a casting director seeing my work so always thankful from my heart.

How do you stay motivated and creative when inspiration runs low?

This entertainment industry runs up and down as it’s well versed and we all have to cope up with the same. I keep engage myself in gym when less /no work for the week n stay motivated for good work . We don’t take each and every casting call these days as only do good selective work as that’s how my brand is made and clients are happy working with our talents . I listens music and dance is 2nd passion so goes to zumba classes sometime to keep engage myself , and keep reading books as knowledge never goes out of fashion .

Can you describe a time when you had to resolve a conflict on set?

Many a times we face such issues which really comes out of the blue such as model not carrying the cloths being told for the shoot , over makeup , over call time or keeping models for a longer time without paying their remuneration extra , behavioural issues from models etc . We try to talk to both production and models and settles the issues there itself with the best possible way so the casting director should be on set each time until everything goes smooth .
